What is the Nepali date today?
Nepal runs on Bikram Sambat, so today's Nepali date is 56 or 57 years ahead of the English one depending on the month. Everything below is calculated in Asia/Kathmandu time, whatever your device clock says.

Nepali months and their English equivalents
No Nepali month lines up with a Gregorian one. Each begins around the middle of an English month and runs into the next, which is why भदौ is not simply “August”. Spans shown are for the current Nepali year, 2083 BS.

Common questions about converting Nepali dates to English, Bikram Sambat months, and converting a date of birth for official documents.
How do I convert a Nepali date to an English date?
Select BS → AD, enter the Bikram Sambat year, month and गते, then select Convert. You get the Gregorian date in English and Nepali, the weekday in both languages, and a YYYY-MM-DD version to copy. For the reverse, choose AD → BS.
What is Bikram Sambat, and why is it ahead of the English calendar?
Bikram Sambat is Nepal's official solar calendar, counted from 57 BCE. Its epoch starts roughly 56 years and 8 months before the Gregorian era, so a BS year runs 56 or 57 years ahead of the matching AD year. The gap is not fixed, because the Nepali year begins in mid-April rather than on 1 January — which is why a mental shortcut fails and a converter does not.
Why do Nepali months have a different number of days each year?
Bikram Sambat month lengths follow the sun's passage through the zodiac rather than a fixed rule, so a month can run anywhere from 29 to 32 days, and the same month changes length from one year to the next. Ashadh, for instance, reaches 32 days in some years and 31 in others. This is why BS dates cannot be converted with arithmetic alone and need a published month-length table.
Can I convert a Nepali date of birth to English?
Yes, and it is the most common use of this tool. Enter the date exactly as printed on your citizenship certificate and copy the result. That Gregorian date is what passports, visa applications, foreign universities and international employers ask for. Do not estimate it by subtracting 56 or 57 from the year — that gives the wrong day almost every time, and an inconsistent date of birth across documents is a common reason files get sent back.
Can I use Nepali digits, or paste a complete date?
Yes to both. Every field accepts Nepali and English digits, and you can paste a full date in YYYY-MM-DD form straight into the year field. The 123 and १२३ buttons change only the numeric output; the full date always stays visible in both languages.
Which years does this converter support?
1975-01-01 BS through 2099-12-30 BS, which corresponds to 13 April 1918 AD through 13 April 2043 AD. Anything outside that window is rejected with a clear message rather than estimated, because an estimated calendar date is worse than no answer.
Does my time zone change the result, and are my dates stored?
No to both. A date you enter is treated as a calendar date, not a timestamp, so the answer is identical in Kathmandu, Sydney or Toronto; only the Today shortcut reads the clock, always in Asia/Kathmandu. The whole calculation runs in your browser, with no account, cookie, saved history or request to a conversion server.
